The 2013 Digicel National Squash Championships got underway at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association Club with no major upsets on the opening day.
In Ladies Open, 1st Round action Rachel Barnes defeated Tiye Williams in straight sets 11-5, 11-2, 11-1, Denise Kyme defeated Isabel Brewer in straight sets 11-7, 11-4, 11-5, while Laura Robinson defeated Rhonda Rawlins in straight sets 11-3, 11-1, 11-4 and Runa Reta defeated Susanna Armano in straight sets 11-5, 12-10, 11-9.
The Digicel CEO Wayne Caines took to the courts in the Men’s Open Division and in his 1st Round match against Tom Powell-Tuck he went down in straight sets 11-1, 11-4, 11-2. College star Noah Browne defeated Jure Malgaj in straight sets 11-1, 11-6, 11-4, while Thomas Sherratt defeated youngster Dylan Muldoon in straight sets 11-1, 11-4, 11-5 and Murray Brewer defeated Ryan Hopkins in a five setter 11-2, 11-1, 9-11, 9-11, 11-2.
