Whee Kim of South Korea holed his first wedge shot of the day for an Eagle, then Birdied his next hole and never looked back. The 21-year-old matched the course record with an 8-under 64 to take the opening-round lead in the Chile Classic in Santiago.
Kim closed his day with a pair of birdies and grabbed a one-stroke lead over Scott Harrington and Edward Loar at the Prince of Wales Country Club.
Michael Sims is T9th after shooting a First Round 5-under par 67. Sims shot Seven Birdies, Nine Pars and Two Bogies.
Sims started out on the Back Nine with back to back Birdies on the par 4 tenth and par 3 eleventh. That was followed by back to back Pars, Sims then recorded a Birdie on the par 5 fourteenth and then a Biride on the par 3 fifteenth. Sims recorded his first Bogey of his round on the par 4 sixteenth to move back to 3-under par, he then closed out his first nine holes with a Par and a Birdie to make the turn at 4-under par.
On the Front Nine, Sims had a Par on the first and then a Bogie on the second, but a Birdie on the third saw Sims move back to 4-under par. Sims ran off five consecutive Pars before closing out his Round with a Birdie on the ninth.
