Following the Bermuda National Athletics Association Track (BNAA) Meet at the National Sports Center yesterday, BNAA President Donna Watson released a statement to the Media.
“We are in high preparation for Carifta as the deadline for final entries being March 11th and we have 4 more track meets scheduled. The charter is ready to take off with just a few seats available. This year we are hoping for around 20 athletes with us looking at quality not quantity. Of course with the costs being more this year we would not be able to have the numbers like last year.”
Watson went on to say, “After the track meet we have 11 athletes who have reached the standard. Jeneko Place ran 10.89 which is the B Standard for the Under 20 Boys 100m, meanwhile once again Tiara DeRosa threw 2 Personal Best, during the Discus DeRosa recorded a throw of 34.65 and in the Shot Putt she had a throw of 11.39.”
Watson went on to say, “We also had Juma Mouchette running the 5000m and ran a time of 17.01 just missing the B Standard of 17.00, we have several athletes just outside of the standard Zakiyyah Showers clocked 11.35 in the 3000m with the standard being 11.15. Kionje Somner’s time of 11.55 in the Under 17 Boys 100m is just off as the standard is 11.30.”
Watson concluded, “Jahnai Perinchief competing in the Boys Under 17 High Jump leaped 1.81 with the standard 1.85. We have Tahiraah Butterfield and Tyra Stovell close to the standard in the Under 20 Girls 100m and of course we have Dage Minors who is competing in the US and competing very well. Justin Donawa who is home for his break will get to compete during his stay and Jaret Simons is also in school in Jamaica and we are looking forward to receiving some good results from him also.”
