Bermuda’s ICC Americas Division One Twenty20 opponents The Bahamas’ National Cricket team, which recently won the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Americas Division II Tournament at home, gained some much needed match experience last weekend by playing in a Bahamas Cricket Association’s (BCA) sponsored CARICOM tournament. The Bahamas defeated a team from Jamaica by scoring 148 runs compared to just 121 runs for the Jamaican side. The top batsmen for The Bahamas were Marc Taylor with 80 runs and Johnathan Barry with 31 runs.
Andrew Nash had 25 runs for the Jamaicans, while bowling for The Bahamas, Barry took four wickets as The Bahamas won the match by 27 runs. The Bahamas then erupted for 173 runs for the loss of just four wickets against a team from Guyana. Barry scored 62 runs not out, Whitcliff Atkinson added 40 runs, and Marc Taylor scored 35 runs. The team from Guyana responded with a score of 151 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the 20 overs allotted match. Bowling for The Bahamas, Taylor took three wickets, and Barry and Jason Jesubathum took two wickets apiece. Trophies and medals were presented after the match which was played on the turf at Haynes Oval in preparation for the Florida turf at the ICC Americas Division I Tournament in March.
During that tournament, The Bahamas will face top teams such as United States and Bermuda.
