 DOMINIQUE MAYHO IslandStats.com The Bermuda Bicycle Association held its annual Awards Dinner where local riders were recognized for their 2012 results. During the dinner special awards were made:
MOST IMPROVED JUNIOR - VASHON CANN
Cann capped his junior career with a great 2012 season. Often sitting in the shadow of some of his contemporaries, he had a great road race series in Adult A, scoring a fantastic 3rd place in the August 26th road race and finished 7th in the series along with strong performances in the Road Race and Criterium Championships.
MOST IMPROVED RIDER - CLIFFORD ROBERTS
Roberts has had a great season which he capped with a 4th place in the IBC National Criterium Championship. His road race season was a continual progress which ended on a great note, just half a second off of the podium.
CLUB PERSON OF THE YEAR - RICHARD NORTH
North is a Berkeley Institute PE teacher and has been instrumental in attracting students to the school’s cycling club, including Vashon Cann, Tre-shun Correia, Cheuan Richardson and Dominique Mayho. For the last four years he has cajoled his students, encouraging them to try the sport with great results.
JUNIOR RIDER OF THE YEAR - MARK GODFREY
Godfrey’s year-long results make for an impressive resume of results. 8th in the road race series Adult A, Junior Road Race Champion, 3rd in Junior TT championship plus 1st in stage 3 and 2nd in GC at the Tour de FCCC and 8th in the Jr. CCC time trial.
FEMALE RIDER OF THE YEAR - NICOLE MITCHELL
Mitchell has continued to progress her racing and carried a basketful of National Championships titles with Time Trial, Road Race and Criterium which were capped with a silver at the CCC time trial and bronze in the CCC road race. Mitchell is the standout the local women’s field and has her sights to go even further.
MALE RIDER OF THE YEAR - DOMINIQUE MAYHO
Mayho has had a wonderful year, winning all four National Championship titles (MTB, TT, Road and Crit) and won all road races locally but one, all the MTB races and turned in several awesome TT series performances. Mayho broke Garth Thomson’s Harrington Sound TT course record and came within 4 seconds of Tyler Butterfield’s Shelly Bay course record (set by Butterfield when he was riding as a professional for Slipstream). This has been a great year of results for Mayho and there is certainly pressure for him to go further in cycling.
