The 2013 Carifta Games will be held under the theme: ‘CARIFTA 2013: A celebration of Caribbean unity’.
The number of participants and visitors who will be in town for the 2013 BTC CARIFTA Games is steadily growing, as the countdown to the hosting for the Bahamas continues.
Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Basil Christie revealed yesterday, that 22 countries including Bermuda have confirmed their participation. He also noted that the games allow for 26 countries, leaving only four more spots open for those who have yet to make a final decision on whether they will be participating.
The CARIFTA games are scheduled for March 29th - April 1st at the new Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.
“After four months of planning, we are happy to report that just about everything is in place,” said Christie. “Categorically, we have assembled a dynamic and very organized team. We’ve gotten the support of the government and the National Sports Authority (NSA) for the use of the stadium, and so many other areas of support. The word that this is going to be the best CARIFTA ever has spread around the world. The secretary gets request everyday for tickets and accommodations.
“I have been informed that some 75 coaches are coming from the United States of America to look at the athletes. We have registrations from 22 countries in the Caribbean, all ready for competition. We had anticipated numbers of 500 athletes, but we have exceeded that. The number of officials who will be coming is over 160. In terms of supporters from different countries, the response and requests for tickets have been overwhelming. This suggests that this CARIFTA is going to be fantastic.”
