In a Press Conference back on November 13th, 2012 Bermuda National Athletics Association National Coach Troy Douglas announced the new Track and Field Coaching Staff.
It was during that Press Conference Douglas said we will see big things from the coaches and athletes.
Sonya Smith was installed as one of the Bermuda National Athletics Association Throwing Coaches and under her wing she has helped along fourteen year old Taira DeRosa.
DeRosa has started the year off in tremendous form, throwing the Shot Putt further than the Carifta A Standard at each Track meet in 2013.
Smith said, “I have been working with DeRosa on her strength, she is doing speed work and also working hard in the gym with weights just preparing for her next step.”
“She has so much potential, I want to her break my Carifta Record, it has stood for a very long time and I would like it if the record was broken it was another Bermudian that would do it,” concluded Smith.
“I know it will take hard work and dedication to achieve goals set, but I am just grateful that my coach Sonya Smith has helped me so far and I am looking forward to going even further and doing my best,” said DeRosa.
