Confusion and anger is mounting in the Bermuda Road Running Community, as on Sunday February 17th will see a clash of running events.

The long running Annual Ed Sherlock 5K race which will be running their 20TH Anniversary will go up against the 2nd Annual Validus “Running of the Bulls” 5K.

The Ed Sherlock race celebrates a Bermuda Road Running Legend who still competes in the Annual Event, Sherlock captured Bermuda Day Half Marathon title 6 times.

The “Running of the Bulls” race is inspired by the running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Several elite runners (the “Bulls”) will be running the race but will have a delayed start. The elite runners/walkers will try catch up to the rest of us runners/walkers to the finish line.

The countries Road Runners will be divided, many who run in Bermuda run because of the rich history that the island offers in Road Running that was established by people like Sherlock.

One of the reasons for the change for the “Running of the Bulls” race from last year’s date was that it clashed with a walking event in Hamilton, so it was decided to move it to another date, the date chosen was the day that a race is held for a Bermuda icon.

In 2012, Stephen Allen and Joanna Shillington raced away to the Ed Sherlock 5 Mile Road Race Male and Female Titles.
