2013 Island Games Quailiers

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Laser Radial and Standard Nationals hosted by the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club concluded with racing just off the Spanish Point Boat Club.

On the line for the sailors was an opportunity to represent Bermuda in the 2013 Island Games being hosted at the Spanish Point Boat Club.

The qualifiers consisted of racing held on December 22nd and 23rd and finished this weekend.

In the Laser Radial Class racing was cancelled in December due to high winds so the sailors had everything to sail for with 5 races scheduled. In 15+ knots the racing began shortly after 11:00am. After five races both Brett Wright and Owen Siese where tied on 6 points with the tie breaker going to Wright, while finishing in 3rd place was Kalin Hillier.

The winds where much lighter for the Standard Rig with racing delayed due to lack of wind, however by 11:45am the wind filled in with approximately 8 knots. In the Standard rig Malcolm Smith was first on 15 points with Owen Siese close behind in 2nd place with 17 points, rounding out the top 3 was Rockal Evans.

This makes a great two weeks for Siese who just returned from the Orange Bowl where he came 2nd overall in the Laser Radial fleet. Siese will now need to decide in which fleet or which regatta he would like to represent Bermuda as he has also qualified to represent Bermuda in the ISAF Youth World Championship which unfortunately is being held at the same time as the Island Games.
