Neal Towlson and his Wingate University Men’s Tennis teammates go into the season ranked 26th in the Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II pre-season top 50 rankings.
The defending South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament champions are the highest ranking league school in the poll.
Towlson said, “This year we have set the teams goals high, we are looking to defend the conference title.”
Wingate University were 19-7 overall (9-0 SAC) last season, advancing to the NCAA play-offs for the fourth time in school history, and Towlson is hoping to get back this year and do beeter than they did last year.
Wingate opens the spring portion of its 2012-13 season Saturday, Feb. 2nd, visiting Davidson College for two matches. They will then play host and battle former SAC rival Presbyterian College. Wingate (2-0 overall) won both of its fall 2012 matches.
“Towlson concluded, “I am looking to play as best I could this year, I will be playing number one doubles which I think is my strength, I will also play in the top three in singles.”
