The Bermuda School Sports Federation Select Team (BSSF) played two games on Day Two during the IMG College Showcase 2012.
BSSF Select 1 Plantation 4
The Bermuda Senior School Select took on Plantation, a Florida regional team. Whilst Bermuda tried to play from the back and switch play from either side of the field a simple over the top ball saw Plantation bully the back four which resulted in an early 1-0 lead. Although Bermuda had a lot of midfield possession the Plantation team played direct crosses into the box which again saw some clinical finishing with a close header which beat an outstretched Jordan Casarano to make the score 2-0.
Early chances fell to the CedarBridge duo Chae Brangman and Caldre Burgess which never really saw the Plantation keeper tested. Prior to the half time whistle a poorly cleared ball from the Bermuda 18 yard box resulted in a diverted ball steered towards the Bermuda goal which resulted in a 3-0 score to Plantation.
Coach Andrew Bascome restructured play at the half and demanded more of the Bermuda Select team which looked shocked to be down three goals at the half.
With the second half starting, Demetre Daniels started to string passes together in the midfield who linked well with Calin Maybury. Whilst Bermuda looked a lot more settled in the early stages of the second half of the game they never really looked to pressure the back four or the Plantation goalkeeper. With a poorly cleared cross and another direct ball into the Bermuda box saw an unfortunate scrambled clearance placed into their own net.
With Bermuda consistently trying to re adjust with the long ball tactics of Plantation and the introduction of Deondre Trott saw the Warwick Academy player flight a long ball into the goalmouth with Kiuno Cann rushing in to finish the keeper misplayed the flight and the ball ended up in back of the net to put the Bermuda Select on the score sheet.
BSSF Select 4 Davie United 0
After two losses the Bermuda Select Team had to re-adjust and change the nature of how they were playing. After a reflective session at the team hotel with Coach Bascome, the Bermuda Team went out with a higher purpose and urgency within this third game.
With impressive performances by Mikal Simmons and Deondre Trott saw them both start and again started the game where they left off previously.
A far more convincing and direct play saw Bermuda take an early lead with a close range effort by Chae Brangman slip passed the goalkeeper. Davie struggled with the pace of the game and again a close range effort on the right side of the field saw Brangman fire low into the back of the net.
A far more confident Bermuda team saw them take a 2-0 lead which was well deserved at the half. Coach Bascome although happy with the lead demanded more of his players and highlighted the need to continue pressuring Davie early in the second half. With the second half started, Bermuda again dominated play and a through ball to Brangman saw him place the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the goal to complete his hatrick.
Confident performances where demonstrated by Kiuno Cann and Demetre Daniels who had both worked extremely hard in all three games. As Davie became frustrated with Bermuda’s possession many free kicks were awarded. A poorly cleared effort saw Trott control the ball at the top of the 18 yard box and placed a right footed shot in the bottom left hand corner of the goal. With many players rotated into the game the final whistle blew concluding the first Bermuda win of the 2012 IMG College Showcase Cup.
