The 60th playing of the Bermuda Goodwill Pro-Am Golf Tournament continued today at the islands golf courses. 50 teams from overseas have traveled to Bermuda to compete this week.
Round three finished today under surprising good weather conditions. The overseas players could not believe they were playing golf in shorts and shirts 2 weeks before Christmas. Junior Men’s Team Division
GROSS - The Performance Academy at Magna continues to lead the field in the gross division and have extended the lead to 6 shots and are 19 under par total. Hi5Golf is in second place also while Hidden Valley Golf Club and Rhode Island Golf Club are in 3rd and 4th respectively.
Senior Men’s Team Division
GROSS - Par 5 Club out of Bermuda are also leading the gross division at 17 under par and are 4 shots ahead of nearest rivals the Lakes Golf & CC. In 3rd place are Oshawa Golf and Curling Club with Mississaugua Golf Club “B” in 4th.
Ladies Team Division
GROSS – The Mid Ocean Ladies extended their lead by 3 more shots today to give them a total of 11 under par for the tournament. Riddell’s Bay Ladies are in second place with 5 under par and London Hunt Club is in 3rd with 2 under par.
Professional Men’s Division
Local professional and representing the Bermuda Par 5 Club is Christopher Smith, who has the lead in the Junior Professional division with a three day total of 60 points. Smith will have to battle the Port Royal Golf Club to hang on for a start to finish win. 4 Points behind is Terry Hatch from the Hidden Valley Golf Club who has 56 points and he will finish at Mid Ocean Club. Danny King from the Performance Academy is in 3rd with 55 points and Dennis Hendershott from Hi5Golf is in 4th with 53 points. Both players have the favorable Riddell’s Bay as their last chance to make a charge.
Professional Senior Men’s Division
Lakes Golf and Country Club Professional and past champion, Scott Spence took advantage of the weather at the Port Royal Golf Club and posted a fine 20 points to take the lead with 57 points total. Jim Sheerin from the Abenaqui Country Club, Ted Griffin from Woodland Golf Club “A” and over night leader Danny Mijovic from Kings Riding are all 4 points behind the leader with 53 points and all will be looking at making a run for the title in tomorrow’s final round.
Professional Ladies Division
Wendy Shankelton of the London Hunt and Country Club has set her self up with a very comfortable 13 point lead going into the final round in the ladies division. She closed out her day with 14 points at the Tuckers Point Club and will look at taking on Port Royal in a relaxed state. In second place is Toronto Golf Club professional Johnalee Marshall who was able to pick up 11 points at Tuckers Point to make her 3 day total 34. Ann Carroll from Lambton Golf and Country Club has a total of 28 points while Bermudian Judithanne Astwood is in 4th with 22 total points.
