2012 Cross Country Championships Countdown
On December 8th the Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) will be hosting on the 2012 Cross Country Championships along the St. George's Golf Course.

BNAA President Donna Watson said, “We are looking forward for this being an exciting event as this will be the first time that we will be having this event at this location.”

The event begins at 9:00am with the Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 Age Groups running a 2K, followed by the Under 17 and Under 20 Females running 4K, while the Under 17, Under 20 Males, Open Women, Masters and Senior Masters will cover a distance of 6K and the Open Males will compete over a distance of 8K.

“This is a great course as it is similar to most Cross Country Championships which are run on a golf course. It is very spectator friendly and rolling hills for the athletes. We are hoping to see several of the top athletes and road runners to come out and meet the challenge of the course, continued Watson.

Spectator should see some great races as there have been some good challenges over the cross country season so far between Shaquille Dill and Juma Mouchette with Mouchette winning out of the cross country races but Dill winning out in the KPMG Bermuda Front Street Mile Trials.

Kyrah Scraders and Quasshie Douglas have been going back and forward with Scraders winning the KPMG Bermuda Front Street mMile Trials. Ashley Irby has had an outstanding season so far and Aaron Jacobs.

The High school group has really been exciting with Nico Barclay, Daniel Oatley and a new runner Nate Hartwig.

The women's race should be good with Rose-Anna Hoey winning most of the cross country races and the KPMG Bermuda Front Street Mile Trials but Ashley Eastwanik always comes out and competes in the Cross country championships.

The men should really be exciting with Jay Donawa competing against Lamont Marshall and Chris Eastwanik usually shows up for this race also.

Watson went on to say, “We will also be selected our NACAC Cross country team from this event.”

Watson concluded, “It is important for all athletes to know that there will be no late entries for this event and the deadline is Friday December 7th. We always get a lot of the younger athletes but it would be nice to see some of the older athletes come out and take the challenge. There will not be a lot of laps in this event like most of the cross country races we have had thus far.”
