Alexis Bean and her St. John’s University Women’s Cross Country teammates placed 33rd at the NCAA Northeast Regionals held at a snow-covered Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn.
“Despite seven personal-best performances from our seven competing runners, we were disappointed with our 33rd place finish in the team scoring,” said head coach Jim Hurt. “We needed to tighten our pack to within 30 seconds of each other. We hope to do so at next week’s ECAC Championships and finish the season strong.”
Chelsea Trant ran arguably the best race of her career with a time of 22:46.2 to place 147th overall. It was the third time this season that the junior led the St. John’s team to the finish line.
Freshman Kerri Butler ran the best race of her St. John’s University career with a 6K time of 23:24.1. Butler has now placed second on the team in the past two races for St. John’s. Michelle Duffy was the next member of the St. John’s team to cross the line at 23:43.8 nearly a full minute better than last week’s 6K time at the BIG EAST Championship.
Bean led the next group of St. John’s runners with a time of 23:53.3 finishing 210th and was followed by freshman Stephanie Van Pelt who ran 23:54.0 finishing just a step behind in 211th.
