This is Richmond’s eighth Atlantic 10 Regular-Season Championship in the last 11 years and Richmond wrapped up the No. 1 seed in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament at UMass. Richmond, which has won nine-straight games, still has one regular-season game remaining at La Salle.
"We discussed how tough this final week of conference would be for our program," Head Coach Gina Lucido said. "The team must find a way to break through their opponents' defensive tactics and remain mentally strong and poised in play. Lock Haven brought a rock solid game plan and converted on their opportunities. The depth of our team unity and perseverance was tested once again."
For the third-straight game, Richmond fell behind 1-0 and still found themselves trailing with under 11 minutes remaining. With 10:19 remaining, junior Christina Amorose deflected a shot by freshman Amy Cooke into the cage to tie the game. The goal was Amorose's sixth goal of the season.
"Christina Amorose had a timely goal to tie up the game and bring us some momentum," Lucido said.
Lock Haven regained the lead with 6:57 remaining on a goal by Molly Urey, but that lead lasted just 45 seconds.
Richmond were awarded a penalty corner and senior Catherine Ostoich found Barry for the first of two goals in less than four minutes. Barry's second goal came with just 2:23 remaining off Cooke's second assist of the game.
Barry has now scored two goals in four of the last six games, including two goals in less than a minute in last week's win over Temple. One of those goals made ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays of the Day. She leads the team with 13 goals this season.
"Rebecca Barry demonstrated that all the hype over her has not affected her humility in any manner, as she competed, and converted for the win leaving her past laurels in the past," Lucido said. "Hollis made some key defensive plays for Richmond and Sam Ostoich was pushing on our attack throughout the game."
