In possibly its most dominating performance of the season, Jessica Hollis and her No. 17 ranked Richmond possessed the ball throughout and freshman Taylor Deitrick's 10th goal of the season was all the scoring Richmond needed in a 1-0 victory over James Madison.
From the outset, Richmond took control and maintained possession of the ball in the James Madison end of the field. Late in the game, James Madison had a few chances to score, but sophomore back Samantha Ostoich came up with some great stops on penalty corners and junior goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski made two saves for her fourth shutout in the last five games.
Richmond were unable to score in the first half, but less than four minutes into the second half Deitrick took the ball in from the right side and her shot deflected off a James Madison player's foot for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Richmond had only won once in 17 previous visits to James Madison, but they were able to score a goal against a James Madison defense that bends, but doesn't break often. James Madison entered the game fifth in the nation in goals against average (1.11) and fourth in save percentage (.826). James Madison also ranked 14th in the nation shutouts (4).
