Alexis Bean’s St. John’s University will serve as host to one of the Nation’s Premier Cross Country events as the BIG EAST Championships are set to take place on Friday, October 26th at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
The Women’s 6K race is set to begin at 11 a.m. with the Men’s 8K race to follow at approximately 11:50 a.m.
“We are excited about competing in the BIG EAST Championship,” said head coach Jim Hurt. “Our team has worked hard to be ready, and we look forward to running against some of the top cross country runners in the nation on the historic Van Cortlandt Park course.”
Bean’s St. John’s will look to improve upon last year’s 13th place finish at the conference title meet, as the squad returns three of last year’s top-five team finishers. The top returning runner from last year’s BIG EAST Championship is junior Chelsea Trant who placed 101st overall. Michelle Duffy and Bean were the next competitors to cross the line for St. John’s, doing so within eleven seconds of each other. A freshmen group of Kerri Butler, Ashlin Conroy, Veronica Thompson, Michelle Van Pelt and Stephanie Van Pelt will be counted on to vault the Red Storm up the leader board.
