Professional triathlete Nikki Butterfield confirmed that she would not compete in either the Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship in Des Moines, Iowa or the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. She cited a lack of adequate preparation due to injury and travel as the reason for her withdrawal from the events.
“Following Ironman Switzerland, I had injuries to both my knee and my Achilles that took longer than I anticipated to heal,” explained Butterfield. “Then my focus turned to supporting Tyler at the Olympics, and truthfully I ran out of time to prepare in the way I needed to arrive on either start line in top form. If I don’t feel ready to give my best shot, I’d rather hold off until a future race.”
