Dominique Mayho has offered comments on his France experience thus far. Mahyo is spending two months with Philippe Mauduit, training and racing with the club UCC Vivonne. This week the young rider completed 381km of riding in 13 hours.
“This week I did a bit of sightseeing and went to the city centre, which was really nice, a lot of the buildings are really old, some as far back as the 16th century. I did a bit of shopping, and guess some things are cheaper in Bermuda which was surprising. It's been really hot the last couple of days, Saturday being the hottest at 103˚F.”
“The training this week has been good, the distances and times are down because I had two races in four days. Between races I had to recover so that means shorter rides. The race first was the longest yet at 125k. The course had two pretty long climbs, about one kilometer each, and one of the flat sections went across an open farm, so there was a strong cross wind that really broke up the race.”
“The race started really fast. A group of three broke away from the peloton, I managed to get in a six man chase group. We tried to bridge the gap to the leaders but the gap was too big to close down. Coming to the finish everyone was attacking each other. The final climb to the finish was about three hundred meters. I was second wheel at the bottom of the hill. The guy on the front was looking over his left shoulder waiting for someone to go so I went on his right and was able to hold them off to the finish to finish in fourth place, which saw me win a cup and was on the podium.”
