The Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club will be hosting its next round of the 2012 National Championship Series this Sunday at the Bermuda Motor Sports Park in Southside, St. David’s. The 2012 championship has reached its half-way point and the climax has yet to be hit as each round continues to bring increased excitement.
Cody Sousa-Saints recently returned to competition in the highly competitive GP125 class. The class is full of experience with current points leader, Cyril Whitter III, as well as current and former GP125 National Champions in Bruce Degrilla Jr and Andrew Decosta.
Sousa-Saints is no stranger to the class as he competed in the classification in 2010 finishing in 3rd position in the championship. Joining the BMRC in 2008, Sousa-Saints has finished in the top 3 spots in several classifications including the Stock Modified, GP80, GP125 and Superbike classes. He won the National Championship title in the GP80 classification in only his second season in the BMRC in 2009 before graduating to the GP125 class in 2010.
Continuing in his development in motorcycle racing he continued his forward momentum by competing in the Superbike classification in 2011. The Superbike class is considered the premier classification of the sport in which Sousa-Saints finished 3rd overall in his rookie season.
With 5 years of motorcycle racing experience Sousa-Saints has also competed overseas in national championships in the United States. His first national championship races was held in the GP125 classification in the United States Grand Prix Racing Union (USGPRU). More recently he has competed on both 750 & 1000cc supersport and superbike motorcycles in the WERA & CCS National Championships in the USA. With a love of the motorcycle industry Sousa-Saints is currently an automotive mechanic at his father Justin Sousa's shop, Bermuda Custom Mechanical.
