Nikki Butterfield experienced her first Flat Tire competing that ended her competition at the Frankfurt 70.3 Ironman European Championships.
In the Women’s race Swiss Caroline Steffen defended last year’s European Champion title winning the race in 8:52:33 while German Anja Beranek delivered the day’s biggest surprise by placing second finishing in 9:05:41. The third place went to UK athlete Corinne Abraham who turned in a great 9:21:03.
Butterfield, encountered a big slit in her tire at the 70km mark, she managed to change it fairly quickly, but in doing so she broke the valve, it held for another 35km, but she could not continue after the 105k mark.
