Bermuda take on Guyana in a re-match of the 2011 Caribbean Men's 15 a-side Championships, on Saturday June 23rd in Bermuda at the National Sports Center.
The Guyana rugby team will arrive in Bermuda tomorrow ahead of their ‘do-or-die’ Caribbean Final.
Having lost to Bermuda at home last year, the local ruggers will be looking to exact revenge and should be firing on all cylinders especially after the hosts had defeated Bahamas 16-8 last week in the Bahamas.
The Guyanese reached this stage by beating Trinidad and Tobago 20-0 in a must-win game in the Southern Zone on June 2 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
In 2011, Bermuda won 11-0 to re-claim their no 1 spot in the Caribbean. However, the prize this time around is a little more prestigious with the winner going into Round 2 of the Regional RWC 2015 Qualifiers.
Head Coach and player Theodore Henry believed the team must focus on the match at hand and not the results when the two teams met last year.
“It’s a must-win game, but this year will definitely be a different result altogether because we are going Bermuda for a victory. The guys are looking forward for the game on Saturday but the advantage that Guyana has is that a number of players who is in this current team played against Bermuda last year” Henry asserted.
While Henry has warned his troops that the opposition will be no pushovers, especially in their own backyard, he believes Guyana is fitter, stronger and possesses superior rugby know-how than their opponents.
“Bermuda does have a size advantage and we expect a strong challenge for two reasons, firstly Bermuda is a very good side and secondly they will be playing at home, but Guyana is much more confident than last year” Henry added.
The Guyana Rugby Football Union have named their team which will face Bermuda in the Caribbean Final.
The Guyana squad is Props- Jason Tyrell, Rondell Mc Arthur, and Troy Arjune; Hookers- Allain Crawford and Delroy Gordon
