At the half of the Bermuda – Cayman Island International Test at the National Sports Center sees Cayman Islands leading 3 - 0. The match not only forms part of the 2012 Caribbean Championships but also doubles as part of the 2015 Rugby World Cup qualifying process.
In a brutal first half that saw the Cayman Island medic on the field on more than five occasion with two players having to leave the field for medical attention, Bermuda came close to taking the lead going against wind. Ian Henderson’s Penalty attempt sailed wide left, minutes later Cayman Islands took the lead when Morgan Haywood kick a Penalty to make the score 3 – 0. Haywood came close to doubling the lead but his Penalty attempt sailed wide left.
The Bermuda team continued to fight not only the wind but their opponents as well, Cayman thought they had a Try, but the Bermuda defense proved to be too strong for them and held them up only inches away from the Try line.
In the second half, Cayman Islands time after time fought off everything Bermuda could throw at them, they produced tackle after tackle in a bid to hold onto their lead, but Bobby Hurdle would not be denied, with some seven minutes remaining Hurdle went over for a Try with several Cayman Island defenders hanging on, Henderson kicked the Conversion as Bermuda went ahead 7 – 3, and with no further scoring Bermuda will go into their match against the Bahamas in the Bahamas on June 9th knowing a win will advance them to the next round of the World Cup.
