Bermuda Karting Club Round Up

IslandStats.com
The racing world lost one of its brothers (Dan Wheldon in the USA Indycar series) and what seemed to be in honor of his passing the Bermuda Karting Club held their 3rd race day of their season with some exciting and close racing.

In the Junior Clone classes the racing was close from the start to the finish of all 3 heats. In Junior Clone 1 (7 - 12 year olds), Ryan Lopes extended his lead over Owen DeCosta by winning all 3 heats and even winning the junior class line honors outright in one heat. DeCosta has made notable progress in his driving and is much closer to possibly getting his first victory. In Junior Clone 2 (12 - 15 year olds), Amber Lopes also extended her season points lead over Al Seymour Jr. by winning all 3 heats. The racing in this class was very close with the lead being changed many times between the two in all 3 heats. This promises to be an exciting class to watch for the rest of the season as new drivers are scheduled to be arriving in the class soon. The Senior Clone class only had one entrant, namely Andrew Cabral, who although he had no one in his class to race with, enjoyed the challenge set forth by the Junior Clone 1 & 2 entrants.

The biggest class of the day with once again the closest racing was the TAG class. This race day saw the return of Scott Barnes although due to kart problems he was unable to finish in the top 3. With 7 entries competing in the class the racing went down to the wire. Patrick Ingham proved to be almost invincible as he won all 3 heats by first following the early leaders for half the race and eventually making his move to pass for the lead and never looking back. The battle for 2nd was intense as David Barbosa, Luis Martin, Steven Corrado, Scott Barnes and even Jason North for one heat, swapped places many times during the heats before the dust settled and saw Barbosa taking second in all heats and Martin taking 3rd in the 1st and 3rd heats. Jason North placed 3rd in the 2nd heat. Steven Corrado made a valiant effort to compete with the senior more experienced drivers in just his first full season of driving TAG karts. By the end of the season he's sure to be consistently in the top 3 and possibly winning as the teenager looks very focused and eager to improve every day. Kenneth Harrison and Andrew Cabral rounded out the final two places respectively.

The final class of the day was the 125 Shifter class which only saw 2 entrants on this race day due to kart complications and other commitments for other drivers but the racing was just as intense with only 2 drivers as it would have been with 20! Ben Savill and Alexander Roque committed to providing great entertainment for those in attendance as they switched places for the lead a number of times during their epic battle in each and every one of their 3 heats. The eventual winner of each heat was only decided in the last two laps of the race as the two stayed nose to tail for the majority of the race. Savill managed to edge out Roque and claim the victory in heats 1 and 2 but Roque came back strong in heat 3 and let Savill know early in the race that he meant business as he gave him a small bump on his move to get pass Savill for the lead. Savill unfortunately lost power in his kart for a few seconds before continuing, affording Roque a large lead and an easy route to victory in heat 3. They are sure to continue their rivalry at the next outing of the Bermuda Karting Club, but this time they should be joined by a minimum of an additional 4 shifters which should prove to be very exciting.
