Team St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) won the finals of the ECVA over Bermuda 3-1 (19-25, 25-23 25-8, 25-21) to capture the title for the very first time. Team Captain for SVG, Ijahlon Butler led all scorers with 23 points including 17 spikes.
In the third place game, French St. Martin repeated the same feat they accomplished last year by beating Antigua in straight sets (25 -23, 25 -22. 25-21) to take bronze.
The coach of team SVG Vance Andrews complimented his all round effort and leadership skills. “I must say that we are very happy to win this tournament for the very first time. I have to commend my team captain for his contribution and that of my defensive players in Brendon Smart and Jahmal Edwards who really spurred us on,” he said.
His opposite number in Mark Hamilton said that they gave their best effort. “We really would have liked to take it to five sets and gave it all, however they took the wind out of our sails and got a well-deserved victory,” he admitted. Daniel Fiddick Bermuda’s captain had 16 points in a losing cause.
