Bermuda is taking part in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association inaugural 2011 Junior Women Championships.
Along with Bermuda the participating teams are Antigua, St. Vincent and host country French St. Martin. All teams are bubbling with energy as they are eager to walk away with the crown and show case their skills to the viewing public.
Bermuda’s captain Katrina Hassell expects good competition, some fun but there will be some uncertainty as to what will occur. However she was adamant that the team will play to the best of their ability and focus on the game at hand. Team coach Donna Smith and manager Brenda Dale were of the view the team will play to the best of their ability and should grow as a result of their experience. Most team members have never participated in an international event before so there is anxiousness, curiosity and nerves. But it can all be settled with a tournament win.
In their first game Bermuda went down 3 games to 1 to Antigua. Bermuda won the first game 25-11, Antigua then drew level winning the second game 25-20, Antigua then won the third game 25-7 and then they wrapped up the victory with a 25-23 fourth game win.
Bermuda then went down 3 – 2 against St. Marten, Bermuda won the first game 25-22, before St. Marten won the next two games 25-20, 25-18. Bermuda then leveled the score at 2 – 2 when they won 25-18, but St. Marten won the all-important game 15-10.
