The second Specialized Volleyball Camp of Bermuda recently concluded under the supervision of NORCECA instructor Juan Cartagena. The one-week clinics, sponsored by Bermuda Volleyball Association (BVA) in collaboration with NORCECA Confederation, were carried out at the facilities of Warwick College, and attended by youngsters of both genders. “We had 20 new youngsters of ages between 11 and 16 introduced to volleyball and now Bermuda has the base to continue a four-year development plan,” Cartagena stated in a report to the FIVB Regional Development Center in Dominican Republic. Cartagena informed that for the first time Bermuda will have junior teams participating in the ECVA tournament as part of the expansion plan developed by BVA under the leadership of Elizabeth Rae. “Bermuda currently has 20 girls in the age group of 14-16 and 18 boys between 16 and 18 years-old,” said Cartagena. “They are very talented athletes with promising future.” The current program of Bermuda Volleyball Association projects the inclusion of native Bermudians in future senior teams representing the country at the different regional competitions.
