The Shippensburg University Women’s Field hockey team was voted atop the Western Division in the 2010 PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday morning by the conference office.

Also on Tuesday, Shippensburg were ranked No. 2 in the 2010 preseason edition of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II Poll. Shippensburg totaled 132 points from the coaches balloting, including two first-place votes, and trailed only defending national champion Bloomsburg.

Shippensburg, were this evening putting the final touches to their preseason training when they took on a Bermuda National Training Pool of players at the National Sports Center.

The teams were playing three periods, the first third ended goalless, both teams had 2 short corners but were unable to convert. It was a very even half with a winner unpredictable.

The second half saw Shippensburg go up 3-0, the first goal came off the stick of Bre White is the 32nd minute, Kristina Taylor doubled the lead in the 40th minute and Sam Langone made it 3 – 0 in the 55th minute.

The Bermuda National Training Pool team had their chances but were just unable to put that final touch to the ball to get back into the game.

With a playing squad of 25 Shippensburg really tested the fitness and recovery of the young Bermuda Pool Team.

The last 30 minutes was to be a big test for both teams, with Shippensburg finding the net one more time through a Emily Bosin goal that made the final score 4 – 0.
