Corona League Schedule Announced

IslandStats.com
The 2010-11 Corona League season was officially announced at a Press Conference.

Corona League President Michael McGrath said, “This season is set to be bigger and better than our first season with more teams and more attractions for the family of spectators that enjoy the Corona league. One of the largest increases from last season will be the amount of games that will be played over the season. Last season the league enjoyed playing 121 games at BAA’s fantastic all weather facility but this new season will see us all enjoying 144 games. This increase of 23 games is due to a new team joining the league which will remove the bye week for teams. It was very pleasing for everyone involved in the league that the only complaint from last season was that they missed playing when they had a bye week.

I would like to introduce to you all the latest club to join the Corona League, North Village Community Club who will be introducing the Rams into the League. After the first season of the Corona League there was a lot of interest from clubs and new teams but at the AGM for the league it was decided that we could only expand by one team this season and North Village brought the excitement and community spirit that the Corona League likes to promote.

With the renamed PORC becoming Lock and Key FC the 12 team line up for the new season is:

BAA Wanderers
Lobster Pot F.C.
Lock & Key FC (PORC)
M.R. Onions Real Men
North Village Community Club
Prospect Fire
Robinhood
Tuff Dogs
St. David’s
Valley
Vasco
West End United

This exciting new season will start with the 6 a side tournament on 18th September at Shelly Bay as a teaser for the big day which is Friday 24th September which sees the reigning champions Tuff Dogs facing MR Onions at 6.30pm in the defence of their crown. To make it easier for the teams Fridays games will now kick off at 6.30pm and 8.30pm and with the 12th team joining the league Saturday sees the addition of the 7pm kick off, giving Saturday 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm kick offs. We have a break for Christmas and then carry on till the final league weekend on 1st April which will produce the second team name to be added to the League Corona League Cup.

With the support of the Bermuda Bistro at the Beach we will also still have the Bistro Challenge cup as our knock out cup competition which will start on the 12th November with the climax of the cup competition coming with the final on 8th April and you’ll have to wait till then to see if WEU manage to retain the cup.
