Dwayne Gibson not only used his home course advantage to win this week's Jack Daniels Tour event at the Belmont Hills Golf Course, but he also used it to shoot the lowest score this year, a 3-under par 67.
Gibson produced an almost flawless round until his bogey on the 18th. Playing in the same group was second place finisher Cornell Bean who has consistently of late found his form of old.
Gibson and Bean matched each other for most of the day and made for some thrilling spectator golf. Gibson birdied the 1st hole to jump into the lead with a twenty foot birdie putt which would only be the beginning of his putting display.
Gibson only had to wait till the 3rd hole to drop another 20 footer to go to -2 and 2 stokes ahead of Bean. However Bean was not to be outdone making birdies on 6,8 and 9th holes, unfortunately the double bogey on the 7th held him back from taking the lead on the front 9.
Gibson (-2) and Bean (-1) continued the duel on the back nine with Gibson making birdie on the 11th and Bean matching him with birdies on 13 and 16 the pair stood on the 17th all square.
Bean's tee shot however found the left bunker and Gibson calmly struck his shot 2 feet from the pin for an easy birdie and with Bean making bogey Gibson was still aloud to falter at the last with a bogey for the win.
Scott Roy who is still nursing a neck injury managed to put together a 2-under par 68 round to match Bean for second followed by a three way tie for 4th between Dwayne Pearman, Chris Smith, and Eric West who all shot Even par 70’s.
