Women’s Super Six Tournament
The Bermuda Cricket Board Women’s Super Six Tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday 7 August at the National Sports Centre, North Field, 9:30am start. The aim of the tournament is to provide a fun day of fast cricket to start Bermuda’s first ever Women’s Super 6 League.

Five teams have registered to play, Key Stars, B.B.F’s, Girls Development Team, Hockey Ladies and Justus. Games will be played between teams of six players, and each game consists of a maximum of five six-ball overs bowled by each side (eight-ball overs in the final match) (see the rules below for more details).

In the run up to the tournament, National Coach, David Moore has been holding training sessions open to individuals and teams taking part. Moore said, “I am extremely pleased with the response so far. We have had 5 teams register and many more individuals who are interested in competing in the league scheduled to take place once the tournament has finished. We have a long way to go with Women’s Cricket, however, I am confident that the BCB is laying the foundations to progress in the right direction. ”

Allen Richardson, 1st Vice President, said, “The Women’s Development Programme came into fruition five years ago and since then we have seen an increase in women players from 5 years of age to adult. Although, there are lots of women and young girls competing against the boys, the BCB recognize the need to provide an all-women’s tournament and league to enable girls and women to play against each other on a regular basis. The BCB’s aim is to encourage more women players to enjoy the sport, which will aid in the overall development of women’s cricket on the island.”

The BCB Women’s Super 6 Tournament Rules
The Laws of Cricket apply, except:

Games are played between two teams of six players, and each game consisted of a maximum of five six-ball overs bowled by each side (eight-ball overs in the Final match)

Each member of the fielding side bowls one over, with the exception of the wicketkeeper. Wides and no-balls count as two runs.

If five wickets fall before 5 overs are completed, the last remaining batsman bats on with the 5th batsman acting as runner. He always takes strike. The innings is complete when the sixth wicket falls.

Batsmen retire not out on reaching 31 runs. The idea being to reach 36 runs by hitting 6 sixes. A tournament points system awards two points for each match won and one point for a tie.
