For the second year in a row the player who has won the Annual Cup Match Classic’s MVP Award has been the player that scored the most runs.
Although the Committee has announced the MVP and it is something that I respect, (Congratulation again to Deunte Darrell), www.islandstats.com will now give you two name and reasons why these two people should have been considered!
Firstly, I would like to suggest that the MVP is a person that makes the BIGGEST contribution to their teams performance over the match, with that said, the two players that have been left out are Rodney Trott and Malachi Jones.
For the second year in a row Trott has performed well and been overlooked. In the Somerset First Inning Trott had bowling figures of 12-1-42-3, he also held onto two catches in the deep to dismiss Darrell and Jones, Somerset’s two top scorers. Trott then batted when St. George’s was in trouble at 153/6. Trott who scored 20 runs shared a 38 run partnership stand with OJ Pitcher and then he shared a stand of 31 with Allan Douglas Jr, when he departed St. George’s held a two run lead.
As for Jones like Trott he came to the wicket with Somerset 136/6, he and Darrell put on 54 runs for the 7th wicket partnership and when he was caught for 57 Somerset’s score was 220/8, he added a 30 run stand with Jordan DeSilva. Jones then had bowling figures of 13.-4-51-4, although he did have trouble bowling no balls, Jones still managed to get his team back into the game with his bowling spell during the Second Mornings play.
Only two reasons one can probably give why Jones would not receive the Award would be his contact made with Jason Anderson when he was dismissed, as well as him batting in his sponsors shirt and not the teams Sponsored kit.
