The Bermuda Rowing Association held the Ministers Cup racing in the Hamilton Harbor. The silver Minister's Cups were donated by (then) Minister Dale Butler JP MP to encourage the sport in Bermuda. Butler was a founding member of the Association and is always encouraging of our community mission. The Hon. Glenn Blakeney, JP, MP, Minister of The Environment and Sports was on hand to watch the racing and present the Champions their Trophies.
Sophie Demeyer and Lulu Hedstrom were crowned Novice Ladies Double Sculls Minister Cup Champions, the pair covered the course that saw the rowers battle a strong wind to start the racing and that took them around White’s Island in a time of 8:33, while Benjamin Williams and Ryley Erickson won the Novice Men’s Double Sculls Minister Cup with a time of 7:53.
At the presentation Minister Blakeney encouraged the rowers to keep up the good work, in many ways they encourage healthy living and exercise, “This was something very exciting not only did you all battle your opponents but you had to also deal with some trying conditions”. Summer coach - Mark Wilson from All American Rowing Camps said, “I have loved my time in Bermuda and look forward if the opportunity presents itself to do this again. Bermuda has a host of talent and I am just here to help wherever I can”.
