Are you KIDDING ME, the World Cup is not on, the Bermuda National Cricket Team is not playing and no one is flying in, so these youngsters taking part in the Phoenix Junior Open, who have been playing for three days will no doubt get other media coverage.
Ryan Benevides recorded a spectacular HOLE N ONE on the par 3, 17th hole the 35th hole to extend his match but it was not enough to defeat Gold Medalist, Damien Palanyandi who won on the 37th hole of play. Arriek Douglas won his match comfortably to lift the First Flight trophy and Thomas Allkins successfully defended his 12 n Under title. All this, while having to endure rain and wind making for difficult conditions on top of a one hour rain delay.
13-18 CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHT
Palanyandi lifted the 2010 Phoenix Match Play Trophy after 37 holes and despite watching his opponent record a hole n one on the 17th to extend the match further, Palanyandi kept his composure to win on extra holes and lift the Trophy. Both competitors fought very hard and deserved a victory but unfortunately only one can win and Palanyandi no doubt deserves the title. Alex Osborne is the Consolation Champion after Tyler Balcombe conceded during the rain delay.
13-18 FIRST FLIGHT
Douglas won the title after a 6 & 5 victory over Justin Dixon-Watts who played very hard throughout the week to get into the final. Both players demonstrated patience and deserved to be in the final. In the consolation matches, Khari Place won his match 4 & 3 over Nick Hall.
12 & UNDER
Allkins successfully defended his match play title in the 12 & Under flight by winning his match 5 & 3. His opponent, the only female competitor in the field, Elizabeth Parsons put up a spirited fight and made fight hard for the title. Both competitors are very talented and played well all week. Dakota Lamb defeated Mikus Ming in the consolation match 2 up.
