Rally Call For Nisbett

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Equestrian Federation (BEF) President Michael Cherry has sent out a letter asking for Help to put Bermuda on the World Stage. Cherry’s letter to BEF members is to assist Patrick Nisbett’s 2010 World Equestrian Games participation. Although the letter is addressed to BEF members any member of the community can contribute.

Nisbett is one of two elite “A” Bermudian athletes currently competing in the sport of show jumping. Nisbett competed successfully in the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil, finishing 17th out of 47 entries which helped to secure Bermuda an individual Olympic place in the 2008 Beijing Games.

This made Nisbett the first Bermudian show jumper to secure a position in the Olympics and in fact, show jumping was the only discipline where a Bermudian qualified to compete – the remainder of athletes attended on wild cards. Unfortunately, Nisbett’s horse caught an infection leading up to the Games and as this is a sport where the rider and their mount qualify together he was unable to represent Bermuda.

That said I am pleased to announce that Nisbett has another opportunity to represent Bermuda as he has qualified for the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG) which are scheduled to be held in Kentucky in October of this year. Nisbett is a role model and represents a great opportunity for our young equestrians. Here is a Bermudian that is not only living his dream but also giving back to the equestrian community.

While the Bermuda Olympic Association and the Bermuda Equestrian Federation do everything that they can to support our athletes there is still a large gap that is absorbed by the rider and we're asking all BEF members to help raise funds towards the shipping of Nisbett’s horse to WEG. The total cost for this is about $20,000 and the BEF has agreed to match all donations made by BEF members up to the total amount of $10,000.

All donations should reference WEG support and can be sent to the following address or made on-line. The BEF is a registered charity No 214 so we also ask that you check with your place of employment regarding employee matching programs in order to maximize your donation.
