At the start of the race Dale Brangman and his crew Sean Smith sailing in Shaka Zulu got a good jump, they were closely followed by Scott Fox and his crew Stefan Furbert in Get the Cat, and Martin Finnigan and his crew Stephen Dickinson in Kitty Hawk.
Once the fleet had made their way through the Town Cut Channel, Fox had taken the lead, with James Perry and his crew Liam Perry in Sea Breeze in second. As the boats rounded the Fort St. Catherine point Finnigan and Rudy Bailey and his crew Antonio Bailey made their move, by the time they had reached the Oil Docks off of Ferry Reach it had become a two horse race.
As the win shifted Bailey found himself under Finnigan who covered well and began to increase his lead right to the finish. Finnigan who won the race last year with Dickinson became one of if not the youngest ever Edward Cross Long Distance Race Winner.
As the pair crossed the line that took 3:48:50 the emotions can be seen by both Finnigan and Dickinson.
Bailey finished second one minute and eighteen seconds behind Finnigan with Gladwin Lambert and his crew Greg Proctor sailing in Melody finished third in 4:09:27.
