While all eyes today will be on who puts themselves in a position to qualify for a Trip to Bermuda for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf Championships, Michael Sims endured a rough start to the PGA Nation Wide Tour’s $525,000.00 Fort Smith Classic at the Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas shooting a First Round 6-over Par 76 to finish the day T150th.
Sims started out on the back nine and was one over when he made the turn. Sims shot a Birdie on the Par 5 number eleven to go to -1, but after three consecutive Pars, Sims shot a Bogey on the Par 3 fifteenth, a further two Pars saw him looking to end the first half of his round Even, but a Bogey on the Par 4 eighteenth was the start of four consecutive Bogeys.
Before the dust settles and Sims had shot a Par on the Par 3 fourth he was 4-over Par. A Bogey on the Par 4 fifth, and a Birdie on the Par 5 sixth saw Sims going into the final three holes 4-over par.
Back to back Bogey’s on the Par 4 seventh, and Par 3 eighth to go along with a Par on the Par 4 ninth saw Sims finish 11 strokes behind American Chris Kirk and Brenden Pappas for South Africa who both shot 5-under Par 65’s.
