IslandStats.com
Ember Butterfield, Evan Heyliger, Precious Smith, Marcus Smith, Ashley Berry and Kevin Minors are the 2009 - 2010 Denton Hurdle Memorial Trophy Winners.

Primary School Girls Winner - Ember Butterfield - West End Primary

Butterfield always tries to do her best no matter what she is doing. She consistently demonstrates this skill in lessons and sporting events through his ability to raise her own level of performance.

Primary Boys Winner – Evan Heyliger – Somerset Primary

Heyliger easily was selected as house captain by student election this year. He is drawn to younger students as they are drawn to him. No-one likes to lose, including Heyliger. However if losing he is upset with himself rather than with teammates.

Middle School Girl Winner – Precious Smith – Whitney Institute

Smith is not only a talented athlete but a talented scholar athlete. She has aspirations of obtaining an athletic scholarship and representing Bermuda in a wider sporting arena in both soccer and cricket. Smith is on track to accomplishing these goals and many others. She has firmly established herself in the interschool sporting community, across sporting disciplines as a fearless competitor committed to competing at her best. Despite her innate abilities she is very coachable and always eager to acquire skills to elevate her development. Smith is a physical education teacher’s dream athlete. Her athletic skill across different disciplines and the ease at which she acquires newly introduced sports is remarkable.

Middle Boy Winner – Marcus Smith – Saltus Grammar School

Smith demonstrates self-discipline on a daily basis through his dedication to academics and training for sporting teams and dance. He meets these highly demanding tasks and yet still manages to find time to be a teenager.

Smith always tries to do his best no matter what he is doing. He consistently demonstrates this skill in lessons and sporting events through his ability to raise his own level of performance which in turn raises the team or groups performance.

Senior Girls Winner – Ashley Berry – Warwick Academy

Berry is a shining example, she is fit, diligent, driven and successful both academically and athletically. In her chosen specialist discipline, Berry relies on her self – motivation and sheer hard work. If she is to be successful in competition she must put in hours of training and preparation. On the track she is focused and determined to produce her best performance at all times.

Berry is competitive and successful but she commands respect from her peers and fellow competitors and she has the utmost respect for officials. Berry is also always the first to congratulate other’s success.

Senior Boys Winner – Kevin Minors – Warwick Academy

Minors is an excellent role model, not just for WA students or his basketball team mates, but for our Island as a whole! Interestingly he was highlighted as just that when he won the Alpha Phi Alpha Beautillion and a $5000 University scholarship.

Although Minors is highly competitive, he reminds himself frequently of the importance of Sportsmanship. He respects the people around him whether they are officials or his opposition and he makes a point to shake the oppositions hand at the conclusion of every game.
