The Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation Afterschool programme will be holding its annual Summer Fest – Sporting showcase on Thursday, June 10th 2010 on the North Field of the National Stadium.
Jason Hansford-Smith the Youth Services Development Officer for the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation said, “2010/11 will be an exciting year for sport as we move forward to with the design of the Sport and Recreation framework, opportunities for relationship building with the NSGB and the department such as the Summer Fest event will be essential in building an effective partnership”.
“Last year this event was attended by over 420 children and was a highlight of the Afterschool programme schedule”, continued Hansford-Smith.
The Showcase consists of the various National Sport Governing Bodies introducing their sport in short 20 minute sessions to young children (ages 5 – 11). “This is an exciting opportunity for the NSGBs to gain exposure to their future champions as well as participate in the community development of our young people”, Hansford-Smith concluded
