With a demanding summer schedule ahead of them, Jenaya Wade-Fray and the Great Britain Standard Life women's camp commences in Stirling.
Head coach Tom Maher, who is taking charge of his first senior Great Britain campaign, has brought the seventeen selected players into camp well in advance of the competitive action to allow himself time to fully assess the players at his disposal.
Wade-Fray who departed Bermuda Monday Evening after a poorly attended Press Conference by the media arrived in Stirling on Tuesday ready to begin training.
“I just want to play my part”, Wade-Fray told www.islandstats.com, “I know what I am capable of doing, I will be working hard over the next few weeks to prove my worth to the team”.
“Wade-Fray’s mother Jennifer who expressed at the Press Conference that she was kind of disappointed that more of the media did not come out said, “You know when our young people in this country are doing positive it seems that they sometimes get ignored, however we are Proud of her and just delighted that she is getting this chance. Jenaya has been a great role model and I hope this encourages other athletes to strive for excellence especially our up and coming female basketball players”.
Jenaya Wade-Fray said, “We had their first meet and greet yesterday and began training this morning with weights and conditioning and will be on the court this afternoon. We will have 2 training sessions a day up until we leave”.
The roster consists of a good mix of experience and youth as the team look to qualify for the 2011 European Championship which will be held in Poland. Prior to the qualifying campaign, which gets underway on the 14 August against Slovakia, the GB Standard Life team will be playing a number of test games against Bulgaria, Portugal, Belgium, Holland and Israel.
The team will remain in their Stirling training base until the end of June before heading down south to Surrey to continue the build up.
