United Soccer Leagues announced the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week today, with Forest City London’s Sebastian Stihler taking home the honors as the PDL Player of the Week for his stellar defensive and goalkeeping efforts against Toronto in London’s first home match.
With this news few were surprised that Hogges goalkeeper Freddy Hall did not even get an Honorable Mention.
As www.islandstats.com reported yesterday, Hall faced 34 shots making 12 saves and was only beaten once in 180 minutes of action.
Coming off a strong opening match at Toronto, Stihler started London’s debut home match as a defender, but late in the first half London keeper Jarrett Humphreys knocked heads with Toronto’s Bradley Rose. Stihler put on the goalkeeping gloves with Humphreys injured and no back-up goalkeeper on the London bench. The makeshift backup immediately faced a penalty kick from Toronto and dove to his right to make a save. Stihler went on to make several more saves for London and keep a clean sheet.
