Not only did he break a Twenty-Five Year Old Record in Bermuda, Georgia University Sophomore Aaron Evans set a school record with a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run to highlight the final day of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
Although he was edged by two-tenths of a second for the win, Evans finished second in the 800 finals with a school record time of 1:47.00. Evans lingered around fifth place for a majority of the race before making his final push in the last straightaway. LSU's Richard Jones ended up holding off Evans after crossing the finish line in 1:46.81.
Evans' time breaks Shaun Benefield's school record time of 1:47.13 set at the 1995 NCAA Championships. It also gives Evans the Bermuda national record (record was held by former Bulldog Steve Burgess at 1:47.64) and the fifth-fastest time in the nation this year.
