Cooper Helps Win Mark Trophy
As we reported on Saturday, freshman Mackenzie Cooper assisted the Tabor Academy in winning the Mark Trophy in Cambridge Massachusetts. The Mark Trophy is awarded to the winners of the New England Secondary School Sailing Association (NESSA) Team Racing Championships. The Tabor team helmed by Cooper, Alex Jacob and Nick Johnstone took no prisoners in the 13 race event with an impressive 12 wins and only 1 loss. Second place St. George's School were 9-4 while third placed team Hotchkiss School were 6-7 for the day. Tabor entered the regatta as underdogs having lost in regular season to both St. George's and Portsmouth Abbey. Coach Rob Hurd was particularly proud of his team's performance, recognizing the team for their continued improvement throughout the season.

The top 8 high school teams in New England were invited to participate based on their 2010 season performances. Hosted by MIT at their Charles River sailing pavilion, the event were sailed in color coded FJ dinghies provided by the hosts. The picture perfect day saw breeze between 7 - 15 knots with the backdrop of Boston's Prudential Center and neighboring skyline.

Entering the qualifying round robin teams from Tabor Academy, St. George's School, the Hotchkiss School, Darien High School, North Kingstown High School, Porstmouth Abbey, Duxbury High School and St. John's Prep all took to the waters. The top 4 teams from the qualifying round went forward to the 6 race Championship Round where Tabor went undefeated.

As winners of Mark Trophy, Tabor earns a berth to the High School Sailing National Team Racing Championships for the Baker Trophy in Seattle next weekend.
