The Bermuda Bicycle Association’s (BBA) Marquise Cann, Mark Godfrey, Dominique Mayho and Tre-shun Correia began racing in Tennessee competing in the Highland Rim Cycling Classic along with Geri Mewett.
Racing began with Cann and Godfrey racing in the 15/16 race of 22.5 miles, BBA President Peter Dunne said, “The racing looked so easy for them. The pack split about halfway through the race when there was a crash. Godfrey happened to be in the front half and made it into a group of four while Cann was caught behind the mess so he and 5 others were in the chase group. As usual, half of the chasers didn't want to chase and Cann and another rider did what they could to get back up but it wasn't happening. So Godfrey and his group drove it and eventually dropped one guy, leaving three to battle for the finish. Godfrey finished second in the sprint, while Cann grabbed 8th place”.
In the 17/18's Mayho and Correia started with some serious riders with lots more experience, including one kid who is now riding Cat 2 in races against Mewett. When the riders got to the major climb of their 55 mile race Mayho and two others broke it apart and pushed it up the hill/mountain. Meanwhile, Correia settled into his climbing rhythm and worked his way through the other categories who started earlier but struggled on the climb. “Correia had one other guy from his category trying to just sit on his wheel but Correia put it down when he knew there were 7 miles to the 2.5 mile descent. 7 miles of pushing the pace dropped the other guy and gave him a shot at the finish. In the lead trio, Mayho and his partners barreled down this mountain, hitting a max speed of 48 mph. They came into the finish sprint together and the other guys just kicked it that much harder as Mayho finished third across the line. Correia rolled in on his own shortly afterwards in the fourth spot. But race officials ruled due to the winner being relegated for an unsafe finish, Mayho was awarded 2nd place and Correia finished 3rd”, continued Dunne.
Mewett then took part in the Pro ,1, 2 race, however he did not finish the 110 mile race due to a crash.
