Shianne Smith
Smith who just recently received $7000.00 from the Bermuda Olympic Association out of the Delhi Fund in preparation for the Commonwealth Games had a great Heptathlon event recently. Smith broke the Bermuda National Record with points of 5127, she captured first place in all but one event.
Smith finished 1st in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.23, 1st in the High Jump with a leap of 1.56m, she was 1st in Shot Put throwing a distance of 10.41m, 1st in the 200m clocking a time of 24.90 and 1st in Long Jump with a leap of 5.94m. Smith finished 3rd in Javelin throwing a distance of 32.34m, but she bounced back to finish 1st in the 800m with a time of 2:20.04.
Several of these events saw Smith posted Personal Best’s, she competed at the Claremont Classic Meet for Heptathlon/Decathlon. Smith will be graduating from Cal State University in June of this year, she is being coached as she has completed her scholarship eligibility by Lawrence Terry of South Carolina who has coached many top US athletes in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. With Smith's points from the heptathlon she is now ranked 5th in the CAC ranking, she will be training in South Carolina leading up to the CAC Games and then in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.
Henry Stevens-Carty
Stevens-Carty won the 800m and 1600m in the Georgia 4A State Championships. Stevens-Carty won the 800m in a time of 1:53.25 and the 1600m in 4:24.45. More good news for Stevens-Carty is that he signed to Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama receiving an educational and athletic scholarship competing in the NCAA Division I Conference.
