Chayce Smith’s Saint Augustine’s College recently captured both the men’s and women’s crowns for the fourth consecutive season and 12th time in 13 seasons at the 2010 CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Rogers Stadium on Virginia State University’s campus.
Saint Augustine won nine of 17 men’s events. Josh Scott led the way with victories in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Other winners for the Falcons include Richard Boone (100 dash), Smith (1500 run), Jason Boyd (110 hurdles), Michael Williams (long jump) in addition to Shuping (800 run) and Duffus (triple jump). The Falcons also won the 4x100 relay. Other men’s winners were Geoffrey Langat of Virginia Union (5,000 run), Hoova Taylor of Virginia State (high jump), Fred Boone of Saint Paul's (pole vault), Collin Cumberbatch of Bowie State (shot put), Todd Shelton of Saint Paul's (discus), Bryan Aycoth of Livingstone (javelin) in addition to Green (400 hurdles). Johnson C. Smith won the 4x400 relay.
Saint Augustine scored 234 points to run away with the men’s title. Johnson C. Smith was second with 96 points and Bowie State was third with 93 points. Orolondo Duffus of Saint Augustine’s College was named field MVP while Johnny Shuping of Saint Augustine’s College and Leford Green of Johnson C. Smith tied for track MVP honors.
The women’s meet was much closer as Saint Augustine outdistanced Bowie State 193 to 154 points while Johnson C. Smith finished third with 145 points. Lakeshia Carney of Bowie State was selected field MVP and Kyra Mobley of Saint Augustine’s College was chosen track MVP.
