Picture by David Stluka IslandStats.com Riding for her school the University of Colorado-Boulder Flora Duffy finished 4th in the USA Cycling 2010 Collegiate Road Women’s Division 1 Nationals Crit in Madison, Wisconsin.
In the event that features the top collegiate cyclists from around the United States, saw Duffy complete the course in a time of 43:51.6, her time was the same time recorded by the third place finisher.
With nearly all 86 starters charging the line to the finish, the 45-minute DI women’s criterium played out in dramatically different fashion. With several major players looking to control the race and earn valuable team omnium points, things stayed all together until the final corner. Jennifer Purcell (Midwestern State University) led the pack out of that final turn and held off multi-time national champion Carla Swart (Lees-McRae) to earn her first national title in dramatic fashion.
In the DI Women’s Team Time Trial Duffy and her teammates finished 4th overall. Marian’s women posted a time better than many of the men’s squads, 42:25.44, earning the title by only around 10 seconds ahead of the powerful Lees-McRae squad. The University of California-Davis finished around 30 seconds later to earn third.
