Bermuda Retain Challenge Cup

Bermuda retained the Conyers Youth Challenge Cup and also won the International Rugby Board full International match in the Cayman Islands.

In the Conyers Youth Challenge Cup Under 10 Match Up Bermuda won 20 – 5. Padraic O'Shaugnessy scored Two Try’s, while Tyler Kendall and William Montgomery scored 1 Try each.

Bermuda then won the Conyers Youth Challenge Cup Under 12 Match Up 35 – 0. Bermuda got Try’s from Mikiel Thomas, Liam Bird, James Collins, Logan Ball, Grenville Lines, Tom Hill and Will Lorimer-Turner.

The biggest upset of the day saw Bermuda dig deep to win the Conyers Youth Challenge Cup Under 12 Match 14 - 5. Bermuda Rugby Union President Michael Montgomery said, “Coaches Dave Cooke and Robert Blee did a fantastic job of giving the boys the skills and ability to win the match”. Captain Graham Cooke led from the front and all the players followed in the pivotal match of the day. The Bermuda Try’s came from Micah Perozzi and Tadhg O’Shaughnessy, while Daniel Nash kicked two Conversions.

In the Conyers Youth Challenge Cup Under 16 Match Bermuda went down 48 – 7. Montgomery said, “The Bermuda players at this age group played their first 15-A-Side match played admirably in a losing effort”.

Bermuda Retained the Conyers Youth Challenge Cup with a 3 – 1 scoreline.

In the International Rugby Board as a full International match Bermuda won 26 – 15 which will no doubt move them up the International Rugby Board Standings. Shauntino Simons scored an early Try to give Bermuda the lead and when Rich Holden kicked the Conversion the score was 7 – 0. Cayman then scored 15 straight points to lead 15 – 7 at the Break.

In the Second Half, Greg Frazier came on at fullback and did not miss a kick. David Porter scored a Try and Frazier added the other 14 points as Bermuda came from behind showing heart. Montgomery concluded, “The Bermuda team rallied around Captain Peter Dunkerley and won the match going away in 92 degree heat”.
