Playing without Quincey Taylor, Giorgos Palalas, Giannoulis Giannoulis and with just six players to compete for the final 50 minutes AEL defeated Sullivan Phillips and APOEL 96 – 92 in double overtime to stay alive in the Cyprus National Basketball League Play-Off Finals.
However the biggest news was that after an incredible game, and while Phillips’ and his teammates aboard the APOEL bus was heading back AEL hooligans attacked the bus, broke the windows and hurt APOEL players including Phillips as well as the physiotherapist of the team.
With the win AEL avoided the sweep, thus denying APOEL the Championship in three games, Phillips’ APOEL will now try to win the championship in game four later in the week.
It was undoubtedly one of the most exciting game of the final phase that saw the score 71 - 71 at the end of regulation time and then 81 - 81 after the first overtime five minute period. With AEL scoring 15 points in the second overtime period while holding APOEL to 11 points.
Brandon Heath led APOEL in the scoring department with 23 points, with Phillips scoring 5 points, while Brian Bracey led AEL with 24 points.
