Goater Selected in ISL Draft
At the Island Soccer League Draft at the Grotto Bay Hotel, Apex coach Museo Hunt stunned the audience when with his Eighth Round Draft pick he selected Shaun Goater.
With the evening going along smoothly and not many surprises, Hunt used almost every second on the one minute clock before the announcement came, and with the reaction of the other coaches, Hunt knew he had pulled off a big one.
Goater a former professional is currently a part owner of the Bermuda Hogges in the USL Premier Development League.
Goater's first professional club was Manchester United, but he did not reach the first team, making his League debut in 1989 after moving to Rotherham United. Goater played for Rotherham for seven years before moving to Bristol City in 1996. Two years later he moved to Manchester City for a fee of £400,000.
Goater is most well known for his time at Manchester City, where he scored over 100 goals between 1998 and 2003, finishing as the club's top scorer for four consecutive seasons. After leaving City, Goater had spells with Reading, Coventry City and Southend United, before retiring in May 2006. Goater who also played a few games for the Hogges represented Bermuda 36 times, scoring 32 goals.
If Goater suits up for Apex he will become a Semi-Professional player as the ISL Players will be paid this coming season.
